If you're looking for content to fill a press release, look no further than your calendar. What milestones are coming up that might be newsworthy? Milestones are those important dates that mark the passage of time and, more important, the progress your organization has made and the positive achievements you have produced. Five year anniversaries are the easiest to identify when it comes to newsworthy events. If you're coming up on a five or ten year anniversary, you've got some real potential to make news. The one exception is the one year anniversary which should always be highlighted whenever possible.
Another milestone is the passage of time since a previous announcement. So, if you made a change in customer service last year, now might be a good time to talk about how it's going. What do customers think? How has it improved service?
Yet another milestone would mark the passage of time since your last expansion, addition or new hire. What changes can you point to that could be traced to that earlier event? Be sure to include verifiable data to back up your announcement. Use graphs or before and after photos to show progress. Identifying milestones is a good way to keep your name in the news -- in a positive way. It's also a great reminder to employees and board members of the success that you've achieved.
